Springfield, Mass. - April 21, 2018 - Behind a career-best four points from Cameron Glover (Brunswick, Maine), the Springfield College men's lacrosse team defeated MIT, 12-10, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field. 

With the win, the Pride is now 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the NEWMAC, while MIT drops to 7-6 on the year with a 3-2 mark against league opponents. The Engineers held a 44-35 advantage in shots over 60 minutes of play, while also picking up 29 ground balls compared to the Pride's 18. In net, senior goalkeeper Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) made 14 stops, while his counterpart, Victor Fink (Haverford, Pa.) made nine saves for the Engineers.

Along with Glover's four points, seniors Tom Hurley (Goffstown, N.H.) and Duncan Preston (South Portland, Maine) notched three points on two goals and an assist in the win. Defensively, Zane Smallidge (Nyantic, Conn.) had a pair of caused turnovers, while Anthony Febbo (Yonkers, N.Y.) recorded a team-high five ground balls in the victory.

MIT was led by Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.), who posted four goals, while Nicolas Gianni (Henderson, Nev.) had six points on two goals and four assists. David Klee (East Greenbush, N.Y.) caused three turnovers, while at the face-off "x", Luke Gianni (Henderson, Nev.) was 21-for-26 with 14 ground balls. 

The Engineers got on the board first when Gavin Vandenberg (Elmhurst, Ill.) scored just 1:36 into the contest, before the Pride answered with three-consecutive goals to make it 3-1, Pride, with 3:26 on the clock. Glover got the ball rolling with a goal at the 11:52 mark, before Preston dodged down the left alley and blew one past Fink to make it 2-1, before the senior added his second of the game to complete the three-goal run. Nicolas Gianni would cut the Engineers' deficit to one with 2:40 to play in the quarter with a man-up goal, but Glover would find Jack Vail (Franklin, Mass.) for a goal with 47 seconds on the clock to give Springfield College a 4-2 lead at the end of one.

MIT pulled even with goals from Davis and Jack Kelly (Milford, Del.) just 3:19 into the second quarter, but Chris Cunnington (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) gave the Pride a one-goal lead after finishing a feed off the end line from Joe Hawley (Poulsbo, Wash.) at the 9:59 mark. Just 50 seconds later, Aidan Westley (Palos Verdes, Calif.) finished off a feed from Kelly to make it 5-5, before Hurley found Tommy Nash (Massapequa, N.Y.) to make it 6-5, and Preston set up Glover to give Springfield College a 7-5 lead heading into the locker room.

Opening the second half, Febbo picked up a loose ball and pushed transition before finding Hawley alone in front of the net for an easy catch-and-finish, before Hurley scored a pair of goals just 2:22 apart to push the Pride's lead to five. With 7:11 left in the third quarter, Davis found the back of the net, before Nicolas Gianni converted a feed from Jacob Stein (Vienna, Va.) to pull MIT back to within three heading to the fourth quarter.

Glover converted his third of the game, a man-up goal with 9:26 to play, making it 11-7 Pride, before MIT answered with a man-up goal from Davis with 7:08 to play. After Matt Allen (Chevy Chase, Md.) scored unassisted to make it 12-8 with 5:08 to play, Mark Heatzig (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Davis both scored 25 seconds apart, but the Pride was able to fend off the rally to seal the two-goal win.

Springfield College will return to action on Wednesday, April 25 when the Pride hosts Clark in NEWMAC play at 7 p.m. on Stagg Field.
