No. 13 Williams Tops Field Hockey, 3-0

Box Score

Williamstown, Mass. - September 27, 2018 - Playing a nationally-ranked team for the third-straight outing, the Springfield College field hockey team was bested by Williams College, 3-0, in non-conference play on Thursday evening.

Williams, which was ranked 13th in the most recent Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, improve to 5-1, while the Pride dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season to fall to 5-3.

The Ephs struck for the game's first goal at the 6:10 mark when Isabelle Perry knocked home a rebound.  Springfield was able to keep the score at 1-0 with a beautiful kick save by goalie Emmalie Drake (Pittsford, N.Y.), before she made a diving save followed by a flurry of stops to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.

The Ephs would break through again just before halftime on a strike by Simone Veale at 32:54 for Williams second goal of the game. Williams tacked on an insurance goal at 56:26 as Perry ripped a shot through traffic on a penalty corner that was set up by Meredith Wright and Kate Gregory.

Drake tied her career-high with 16 saves, nine of which came in the first half, as the Pride were outshot 24-4 in the contest.

Springfield will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday when it hosts WPI at 12 pm.
