MIT Rallies In Overtime Over Men's Soccer, 2-1

Cambridge, Mass. - October 12, 2019 - The Springfield College men's soccer program fell to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Henry Steinbrenner Stadium. 

The setback puts the Pride at 3-9-1 overall and 1-3 in NEWMAC. MIT improves to 6-1-5 on the season with a 2-0-2 record in NEWMAC play. Springfield recorded six saves on the day, while the Engineers were credited with three stops. 

It was not until the 70th minute when Springfield broke the scoreless tie in the match. Ian Macala (Vernon, Conn.) crossed into the box from the left and Jaxon Tamulaites (Bristol, R.I.) chipped in the pass for the 1-0 lead for Springfield. 

At 83:49, the Engineers responded to even the score with a Ivan Jutamulia goal from the right side. With three minutes remaining, Springfield had a chance for the game winner when Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) attempted a header that MIT defended, forcing overtime. 

In the extra period, Jutamulia scored after a series a moves that sealed the victory for the 2-1 overtime victory for the Engineers. 

The Pride look to bounce back Saturday, October 19 when they host Emerson College at Brock-Affleck Field at 1 p.m.
