Worcester, Mass. – October 26, 2019 – The Springfield College men's soccer program suffered a 4-2 loss to WPI on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.

The Pride have a record of 4-11-1 and sit at 2-4 in the NEWMAC. WPI improves to a 10-2-4 mark and are 4-0-2 in conference. The host held a 21-12 advantage in shots over Springfield, while the Pride had four corner kicks.

Early in the first period, Mark Calnan gave WPI the first lead of the game with a strike from the right. The Pride held the league-leading WPI scoreless for the rest of the half, due to the play of Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.), who had five saves in the period.

In the second half, WPI ripped off two goals in a span of 50 seconds to boost their lead to 3-0, however, the Pride would cut into the lead as Ethan Boileau (Branford, Conn.) redirected a header for a score at 59:58. At 71:57, Joseph Olaynack (Middletown, R.I.) would emerge from a scrum and blistered in a goal to slim the deficit to 3-2. Exactly a minute later, WPI would respond with a free kick goal to boost their score to 4-2, silencing the comeback for the Pride.

Springfield will play their non-conference finale on Tuesday, October 29 against UMass-Boston at 3:30 pm.
