Box Score Springfield, Mass. - February 26, 2020 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse program fell in non-conference action to Endicott College, 15-11, on Wednesday evening at Stagg Field.
Springfield evens out at 1-1 and Endicott earns their first victory off the season.
Offensively, Springfield was led by Taylor Pichel (Hopkinton, Mass.), who drilled five goals in the contest, while teammate Gabby Fogg (Kennebunk, Maine) put away a hat trick and seven draw controls. Katie Martel (Hartland, Conn.) added three points and Kate Sarnacki (Granby, Mass.) had four points. In net, Brenna Keefe (Acton, Mass.) pulled in 12 saves.
For the Gulls, Morgan Pike sparked the offense with four goals while Katie Schenk added three goals and an assist. Gabriella Prisco and Katy Gavin each contributed two strikes for Endicott. In between the pipes, Alexandra Rose faced 18 shots and made seven saves. The Gulls edged Springfield in the battle for draw controls with a 15-13 advantage.
To start the half, Endicott came out scoring five unanswered goals taking a 5-0 at 19:06 mark after Pike went unassisted to the goal. At 17:43, Martel got the Pride on the board as she picked up a turnover and sliced to the crease for to make it 5-1, then at 15:27, Martel fed Fogg to cut into the Gulls' lead making the score 5-2. From there, Endicott went on another four goal scoring run over the next 12 minutes of the first half, making the score 9-2 with 3:48 to play in the half. With 2:17 on the clock, Pichel scored off the feed from Sarnacki to slim the halftime deficit to 9-3.
To open up the second half, Springfield ripped off three straight goals with Jamie Jutras (Litchfield, N.H.) finding a cutting Sarnacki for the first goal at 28:53. At 27:47, Fogg bounced off a defender and finished high trimming the Endicott lead to 9-4, later at 26:15, Martel drew two defenders and dumped it off to Pichel for the strike bringing the score to 9-6. Endicott benefitted from four unanswered goals, highlighted by a pair of goals from Schenk. A goal from Pichel with 12:16 remaining in the half would make it 13-7 for Endicott. After a quick back-to-back goals from the Gulls elevating the score to 15-7 with 6:02 remaining, the Pride drilled four goals to close out the game, but the Endicott lead was just out of reach.
Springfield will face off with crosstown rival Western New England on Saturday at 1 pm.
