Kingston, R.I. - October 23, 2021 - After not competing in over 600 days, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team clashed with Coast Guard at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday.
Springfield opened up the meet with a thrid-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay as Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine), Antonio Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.), and Niko Duarte (Plymouth, Mass) produced a 1:38.86.
The Chan brothers picked up a one-two finish in the 100 freestyle as James Chan (Hong Kong) clocked in at 48.28, while Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) tallied a 49.08. James Chan was the runner-up in the 1000 free in 9:52.23 and the 500 free in 4:46.47, while Jonathan Chan touched second in the 200 free in 1:46.61 and won the 200 IM in his first collegiate meet as he placed first with a time of 1:59.23.
Anastasiades completed the 200 breast with a 2:16.33 and Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.) raced the 50 free in a time of 22.42 and recorded a 50.59 in the 100 free . In the 200 fly, Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) registered a 2:03.32, swam the 500 free in 5:00.1, and posted a 1:47.93 in the 200 free.
In his collegiate debut, Jordon McMillan (Trinidad) completed the 100 back in 56.09 and Duarte was the runner-up in the 200 fly in 1:59.25 and the 100 fly with a 52.50.
On the diving boards, Springfield swept the three top spots on the leaderboard in both the one-meter and the three-meter. Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) won the three-meter with a score of 273.75 and also claimed first-place points on the one-meter with a 285.83.
In the final event of the afternoon, James Chan, Marco, Jensen, and Jonathan Chan combined for a 3:14.33 to win the 400 free relay.
Springfield will compete against MIT on November 6.
