Springfield, Mass. - November 13, 2021 - The Springfield College Men's swimming and diving team earned their first two wins of the 2021-2022 season as they defeated visiting Keene State, 213-76, and Wheaton College, 180-110, on Saturday afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Luca Brashear(Amherst, Mass.) won the three-meter board with a 317.10 and Kaleb Osborne (Longmeadow, Mass.) edged out Brashear by .23 points to win the one-meter diving with a score of 266.34.
To start the meet, Springfield's 400 medley relay of Jordon McMillan (Trinidad), Antonio Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.), James Chan (Hong Kong), and Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) took first as they combined to swim a 3:34.25.
Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) had a strong showing in the 1,000 free as he produced a first-place finish with a time of 10:24.10, while Jonathan Chan took first in the 200 free with a 1:45.83. Niko Duarte (Plymouth, Mass.) placed first in the 100 back in 54.49, then earned another first place finish in the 200 back event with a 2:05.49 speed. Anastasiades posted a 1:00.27 in the 100 breast to take the first position. Jensen clocked in first in the 200 fly in 2:03.10 and Jonathan Chan turned in a time of 52.03 in the 100 fly.
Springfield's top finisher in the 50-free was Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine) as the junior narrowly missed a first-place finish with a time of 22.52, meanwhile James Chan collected another first place finish in the 100 free with a 47.84 time. Chan also finished first in the 500 free by registering a 4:55.50 time in the event.
Chris Carey (Franklin, Mass.) put together a 2:21.57 performance in the 200 breast to claim Springfield's top finish.
In the final event of the afternoon, James Chan, Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.), Jensen, and Marco were the first Springfield team to clock in with a time of 1:28.26 in the 200 free relay.
Next up for the Pride will be a dual with Babson College on November 14th.
