Williamstown, Mass. – November 15, 2025 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team defeated Wesleyan University and fell to No. 17 Williams in a double dual meet on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield began the meet with a fourth place finish in the 200-medley relay as
Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.),
Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.),
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) clocked a time of 1:38.34.
Quinney went on to place third in the 100-back in 54.86, while Backlund took runner-up honors in the 50-free in 21.52 and fourth in the 100-free in 47.71 as some of Springfield's top finishes on the day. Milligan took third in the 200-IM in 2:08.96 and was quickly followed by
Charles Deaton (Bluffton, S.C) in 2:09.70.
Springfield's 400-free relay of Quinney,
Kellen Maher (Naugatuck, Conn.), Nguyen and
Riley Hester (Barkhamsted, Conn.) ended the meet with first place points in 3:19.89.
In the diving well,
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) recorded first place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 302.60 and a second place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 290.20 Both of his scores were once again above the qualification marks for the NCAA Division III Diving Regional meet.
Springfield will have a few weeks off before head to WPI for the Gompei Invitational to start December, while the divers will travel to RPI for the LGR Invitational the same weekend as their midway point to the 2025-26 season.
