Worcester, Mass. - December 4, 2021 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the second day of Gompei Invitational hosted at WPI on Saturday and remained in fourth place.
The scoring of the meet is based on the combined results with the women's program, and Springfield remained fourth among the nine institutions in the competition with 3112.5 points.
Highlighting the day was the efforts of James Chan (Hong Kong) in a time trial of the 100 fly, as the junior set his third individual Springfield College record with a 50.57, besting the previous record of 50.61 that was set by Kent Parsons in 2018. Additionally, Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) won the three-meter diving competition after registering a score of 452.30.
In the 200 free relay, Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine), Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.), and Chan finished in fifth with a 1:26.15. Chris Carey (Franklin, Mass.) posted a 4:29.35 in the 400 IM and Forsythe registered a 58.82 in the 100 breast.
In the 100 back, Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) touched in 53.39 for a top-eight finish and later finished fifth in the 50 back in 25.02.
Chan delivered a third-place time of 1:43.02 in the 200 free, while Jensen took fifth in the event with a 1:43.74. Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) also had a strong showing on the diving boards, scoring a 411.45 on the three-meter to take third.
The 400 medley relay team Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong), Niko Duarte (Plymouth, Mass.), and Jensen turned in a 3:32.23. The mixed 200 free relay team of Marco, Chan, Mikaili Charlemagne, and Kay Shen sprinted to a third-place time of 1:31.06 and the mixed 400 medley relay squad of Forsythe, Jensen, Emma Baumhauer, and Elizabeth Fraser completed the race in fourth with a 3:46.98.
