Worcester, Mass. - December 5, 2021 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team finished the three-day Gompei Invitational hosted at WPI on Sunday was ended the competition in fifth place.
The scoring of the meet was based on the combined results with the women's program, and Springfield place fifth among the nine institutions in the competition with 4248 points.
James Chan (Hong Kong) delivered a 1:53.20 in the 200 fly for the Pride's top time in the event as he took fourth, while Niko Duarte (Plymouth, Mass.) was sixth in 1:55.13, and Erik Jensen's (Hainesport, N.J.) time of 1:57.03 was good enough for eighth.
Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.) swam a 1:59.11 in the 200 back and Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) completed the 100 free in 47.30. Jensen also registered a 16:25.99 in the 1,650 to finish in fourth place.
In the final event of the night, the Chan brothers bookended the 400 free relay with Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine) and Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago), as the squad posted a 3:09.01 for fifth-place points.
The final competition of the first semester will come this upcoming Saturday when the Pride host Middlebury.
