Middlebury, Vt. - January 16, 2022 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team was defeated by host Middlebury, 180-111, on Sunday afternoon.
After winning a tri-meet with Wesleyan and Roger Williams on Saturday, Springfield traveled the Vermont on Sunday for its second competition of the weekend. The Pride's 200 medley team of Jordan McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago), Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.), Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong), and James Chan (Hong Kong) started off the day with a 1:39.83.
Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) was victorious in the 1,000 free after completing the race in 10:28.64 and Jonathan Chan swam the fastest time of the day in the 100 free (48.30) and the 100 fly (52.21). James Chan also earned first-place points in the 500 free as his time of 4:57.64 was nearly five seconds faster than the next racer and was also second in the 200 free with a 1:45.79.
McMillan earned second-place points in the 100 back following a 54.65, while Forsythe posted a 1:02.63 in the 100 breast and registered a 2:23.96 in the 200 breast. Chris Carey (Franklin, Mass.) recorded a 2:14.53 in the 200 fly and later swam a 4:43.12 in the 400 IM, and in the 50 free, Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) swam a 23.36.
Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) took first on the one-meter with a 274.05, followed by Kaleb Osborne's (Longmeadow, Mass.) runner-up mark of 244.80. Brashear completed the diving sweep with a winning mark of 236.33 on the three-meter.
Wrapping up the day, McMillan, Forsythe, Zonghetti, and Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) combined for a 1:29.40 in the 200 free relay.
