Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 11, 2022- The Springfield College women's volleyball team returned to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play against Mount Holyoke on Tuesday night and earned a three-set win in Blake Arena. Springfield won by the scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-13.
For the Pride, it marked its fifth-straight sweep as it boosted its record to 13-4, 4-3 in conference play, while the setback dropped the Lyons to 6-10, 1-6.
10 different student-athletes recorded at least one kill in the win as the Pride hit .284 and tied a season-best mark for aces with 15. Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Pa.) led all players with 16 digs and six aces, Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) produced seven kills and three blocks, Elsie Phillips (Granby, Conn.) notched four blocks, and Megan Kirtyan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) turned in 27 assists, eight digs, three kills, and two aces.
Knotted at 7-7 in the first, Springfield used a 5-0 surge, with a kill from Jamie Albrecht (Selden, N.Y.) coming out of a Mount Holyoke timout giving the hosts a 12-7 edge. Olivia Gentry (Loveland, Ohio) connected in the middle for a kill to push the Pride's advantage to 20-13 before the first-year later ended the set with back-to-back aces.
Townsend ripped three-straight aces to help Springfield seize a 5-0 cushion to begin the second set before the Pride would pull away from its 16-9 lead with another five-point run, also capped off by another Townsend winner from the end line. Springfield held the visitors to a -.071 hitting percentage in the set and would end the frame with a kill from Phillips in transition for a 25-13 win.
The third set featured five ties and three lead changes in the early going before Springfield used a 7-1 burst to regain a 12-8 edge as the Lyons burned a timeout. Springfield would close the match on a 13-4 run, fueled by six kills from Billet, as the Pride hit .419 in the stanza en route to the 25-13 victory.
On Thursday, Springfield will host Amherst in non-conference play at 7 pm.
