Middletown, Conn. - October 18, 2022 - The Springfield College men's soccer program fell, 3-0, to Wesleyan University on Tuesday night in non-conference play. 

Springfield drops to 2-9-2 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 7-3-3. Wesleyan put up 18 shots and Springfield aimed 10 shots in the match. Wesleyan earned 12 corners compared to only two from the Pride. 

Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) turned away four shots in the contest. 

Leland Malloy (Bethlehem, Conn.) delivered the first two attempts for the Pride with the latter finding the post at 6:04 in the first half. At 7:51, the Cardinals put up its first goal of the contest as Phillip Cubeddu found Lucas Ruehlemann for the score. Wesleyan added two more unanswered goals in the first half from Dana Harmaty and Soren Tollis to push the hosts' total to 3-0. 

In the second half, Springfield was able to slow the Wesleyan attack as the Cardinals took only one shot on goal, which Knibbs swallowed up. At 72:09, Sebastian Correia (West Warwick, R.I.) laid a shot on goal, but was cleared out by Wesleyan. Springfield only had two more chances to cut into the lead and came up short, falling on the road in non-conference action. 

Springfield returns to conference play this weekend against Clark at 1:00 on Saturday.
