Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 29, 2022- The Springfield College women's volleyball team was swept in its final match of the regular season as it dropped a three-set decision to visiting Brandeis in non-conference play. The Judges won by the scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-23.
The loss dropped Springfield to 17-8 on the year, while Brandeis improved to 12-13.
Springfield was held to a .026 hitting percentage in the contest and four student-athletes had at least five kills, led by six-kill outings by Olivia Gentry (Loveland, Ohio) and Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.). Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Pa.) had a team-best 10 digs and Morgan Stafford (Corbett, Ore.) had 16 assists.
Brandeis scored the first four points of the match and jumped out to an 8-2 lead as Springfield called for an early timeout. The Pride would battle back to within 14-11 on a big swing from Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.), only to have the visitors score the next four points to open up an 18-11 edge. Brandeis would total four team blocks in the frame as Springfield committed 10 attack errors to lose by a 25-17 margin.
The Judges again used a quick start in the second, snagging an early 9-3 cushion. After the lead grew to 14-7, Springfield used a 6-2 burst capped off by a Gentry ace to make it a three-point contest at 16-13. However, Brandeis would respond with a set-ending 9-0 push to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Aurissa Boardman (Brooklyn, Conn.) would string together three-straight kills in the third as she helped the Pride snag a 19-16 lead. Brandeis responded with a 4-0 spurt to regain a 20-19 lead, but the Pride would get a kill in transition from Kylie Wixted (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to tie the set up at 23-all. Brandis would then score the final two points off a kill and block to complete the non-conference sweep.
