Northampton, Mass. - February 25, 2022 - The Springfield College men's diving team had three student-athletes compete on the three-meter board at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship at Smith College on Friday afternoon.
13 divers from across the region are competing for a spot at the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held March 16-19 at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. A total of 53 divers from across the country will earn a spot in the national event.
Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) put together an impressive showing en route to finishing as the regional runner-up with a second-place mark of 489.20. The junior's top score of the day came on his final dive as he was awarded a 58.80 for a back 1 1/2 somersault 2 1/2 twist free. Kobe Tray of Williams won the competition with a 523.750, while Colby's Samuel Cahaly finished 40-plus points behind Brashear in third with a 445.60. For Brashear, who was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Diver of the Year earlier this week, it was his best his best showing at regionals on the three-meter as his previous top finish on the three-meter was seventh in 2019.
In hist first regional competition, Kaleb Osborne (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a 347.65 to take 10th while Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) registered a 315.20 to finish in 12th.
The action will continue on Saturday, with the men competing on the one-meter board starting at 12 pm.
