Box Score Auburndale, Fla. - March 16, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball team lost to Salve Regina, 12-2, in its sixth game of the week at the RussMatt Invitational on Wednesday afternoon.
Springfield falls to 3-7 on the season, while Salve evens out at 4-4. The Pride registered seven hits in the contest.
After the Seahawks scored an opening run in the first, Springfield buried two runs in the bottom of the frame sparked by a lead off double to left from Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) to start the inning as the Pride took a 2-1 lead heading to the second.
Salve responded with four runs in the top of the second, however, Conor Caverly (South Berwick, Maine) finished the inning by striking out D'Amato and left three on base for the Seahawks leaving the score at 5-2 in favor of the opposition. Salve followed up that scoring burst with another five run inning in the fifth to go up 12-2. Springfield held the Seahawks scoreless after the fifth inning with Jeff Swift (Clifton Park, N.Y.) throwing the final two innings with no hits and one strikeout, however the Pride could not get the bats going offensively to ignite a comeback.
Springfield faces off against Ithaca College tomorrow at 1:15 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
