Box Score Dudley, Mass. - March 23, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball program returned to New England following its Spring Break trip to Florida and fell by a 9-4 decision on the road to Nichols College on Wednesday afternoon.
Springfield drops to 4-10 on the season with the Bison holding a 5-7 record.
Joe Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.) went 4-for-5 on the day from the plate and drove in a pair to pace the Pride at the plate.
Springfield used a four-hit inning in the second to plate three runs to take control early. After Noah Bleakley (Granby, Mass.) led off with a walk and Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) doubled, Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) landed a single to left to score Bleakley and make it 1-0 in favor of the Pride. Back-to-back RBI singles from Joe Penkala (Warren, R.I.) and Traversa lifted Springfield's lead to 3-0 later in the inning.
The Bison tied the game in the fourth with three runs off three hits, highlighted by a two-run double by William Nath. The hosts later rattled off six runs in the fifth to take the lead as the Bison delivered five hits in the inning taking a 9-3 lead. Traversa continued his strong batting performance with another RBI base hit in the eighth to dip into the Bison lead, however, the hosts would hang on for the non-conference win.
Springfield will host Elms at 3 pm on Thursday.
