Springfield 4, Wheaton (Mass.) 2

Springfield only allowed two hits through the first four innings of play as Blake Roberge (Warwick, R.I.) got the start on the mound for the Pride and gave up just one run over five innings of work. Wheaton scored the first run of the game off a late throw to the plate off a Maher single to go up 1-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Springfield was able to put runs on the board as Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) was hit by a pitch with two outs, then, stole second. Joe Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored Barrett off a single to left, before a Jack Simonetty (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) double brought in Traversa to put Springfield up 2-1. Springfield only gave up one run in the sixth and left three on base following an RBI single to leave the game in a 2-2 tie. In the bottom of the frame, Noah Bleakely (Granby, Mass.) fired a triple to the gap and ended up scoring off a Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) single at the next at bat to go back up 3-2.

The Lyons were left hitless in the seventh and eighth, which allowed Springfield to hold on to its lead and add insurance with an RBI single from Andrew McCarty (Meriden, Conn.) in the bottom of the eighth to give Springfield the 4-2 victory.

Wheaton (Mass.) 7, Springfield 6

The Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning after Caden Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) reached on an error that scored Simonetty and Traversa. The Lyons stormed back and tied the game in the top of the fourth with three runs to get the score to 4-4. Wheaton added three more runs to its unanswered streak as Spirito homered to left in the fifth to continue the momentum and put the score to 7-4.

Springfield attempted a rally with an RBI double from Noah Diamond (Glastonbury, Conn.) and a home run from Maynard in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but the Pride could not extend the game and fell to the visitors, 7-6.
