Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 13, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball team plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a four-run deficit for a 15-14 non-conference win over Elms at Archie Allen Field on Wednesday.
Springfield has now won four of its last five outings to improve to 11-14. The Pride used nine pitchers in the win and was paced offensively by Cole Zalegowski (North Haven, Conn.), as he delivered three hits and three RBI in the victory.
After three scoreless innings, Elms produced five hits in the fourth inning to manufacture six runs to take control early. The Pride responded with two runs in the bottom half, with Jack Cooney (Pittsfield, Mass.) connecting on a run-scoring single and Cole Crynock (Broad Brook, Conn.) adding a sacrifice fly to pull the hosts within four runs.
The Pride took the lead in the fifth after hanging a six-spot of their own off just three hits. With the bases loaded, Zalegowski came through with a two-run base knock up the middle, Luke DiMauro (Haddam, Conn.) followed with a run-scoring single, before Crynock blasted a three-run shot over the left field wall to make it an 8-6 contest.
Springfield's lead was shortlived as the visitors responded with eight runs in the sixth inning, only to have a Noah Bleakley (Granby, Conn.) sacrifice fly and Zalegowski RBI single pull the Pride within 14-10 heading into the seventh. The Pride would then put together a spirited rally, producing five runs in the eighth, with DiMauro tying the game up as he crossed home plate on a wild pitch and Crynock accounting for the game-winning run after Tony Incontro (Lebanon, Conn.) drew a bases loaded walk.
The Pride will now prepare for an important three-game conference series with WPI, beginning with a home game on Friday at 3:30 pm.
