Box Score 2 Springfield, Mass. - April 13, 2022 - The Springfield College softball program fell 5-0 to Amherst, before delivering a 5-1 victory in the second game against the Mammoths to force a split in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at Potter Field.
The Pride are now 21-5 on the season. Springfield will return to conference play on Friday as the Pride host Smith College for a NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00.

The Mammoths used three runs in the top of the third and fourth gain a 6-0 lead over the Pride. Taketa landed a triple that toed the left field line to bring in two in the fourth inning, and later scored courtesy of another base hit to help Amherst to take the 6-0 advantage. The Pride were unable to build a comeback as Dani Torres Werra pitched a no hitter with six strikeouts.
Amherst tacked on two more in the top of the seventh to take the victory and hand the Pride just its fifth loss of the season.

Ashley Pugliese (Huntington Station, N.Y.) pitched a complete game and recorded six strikeouts as the sophomore improved to 7-2 on the season in the circle. Marissa Seyfert (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was 3-for-3 in the game and produced a pair of stolen bases.
The Pride came out aggressive in the second game of the doubleheader and racked in three runs in the bottom of the first. An RBI single from Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) started the stretch for the Pride and two more runs came around following errors by Amherst to help the Pride go up 3-0. The Pride added another run in the second inning as the Pride had three-straight hits to start the inning with Mackenzie Doyle (Gloucester, R.I.) hitting a single to score Seyfert to make it a 4-0 game. An RBI single from Katie Leacoma (Walpole, Mass.) pushed the lead to 5-0 in the third for Springfield, while Pugliese continued to force the Mammoths into outs. Pugliese only allowed one hit through five innings of play.
In the sixth inning, Amherst looked to dip into the Springfield lead as Lee hit a single to left with runners on second and third, however, Seyfert made a throw home to get out Lovejoy and maintain a 5-1 victory for the Pride.
