Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Clark

Springfield, Mass. - April 13, 2022 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse program secured another New England Women's And Men's Atheltic Conference (NEWMAC) victory with a 20-3 win over Clark University at Wednesday evening at Stagg Field. 

Springfield improves to 9-4 and 5-0 in league play. As a team, the Pride outshot Clark, 30-14, and won the ground ball battle, 10-7. 

The Pride had a balanced offensive attack as 13 different student-athletes score a goal in the victory. Taylor Pichel (Hopkinton, Mass.) tallied four goals first-half goals to lead Springfield. Katie Martel (Hartland, Conn.) added three strikes, while Lily Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) and Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) each added a pair of goals for Springfield. 

 Claudia Oakleaf scored twice for the Cougars in the setback. 

 The Pride raced out to a 6-0 lead with 6:32 remaining in the first quarter as Martel contributed three goals over the first nine minutes. Pichel and Andresen each buried to goals before the end of the quarter to help Springfield take a 10-0 lead. The Pride continued to rattle off goals in the second quarter as Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) scored a goal and dished out two assists in the quarter. At 11:02, Ronai fed Isabella Mazzi (Niantic, Conn.) in transition for the first-year's first career score to advance Springfield to 13-0. The Pride built out a 15-0 lead with 5:50 to go as Karen Joy (South Windsor, Conn.) connected with Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.), who rifled in a goal from the right side to add to the Pride's advantage. Lauren Landino (South Windsor, Conn.) scored with 4:14 to play to make it 16-0 before the half. 

In the third period, both Springfield and Clark scored to move the game to a 17-1 score with Oakleaf scoring at the 6:52 mark for Clark. The Cougars scored early in the fourth to make it 17-2, however, the Pride would score three straight to balloon the lead to 20-2. Oakleaf would scored a free-position with 3:51 to play, but the Pride's first half surge allowed Springfield to coast to the victory.

Springfield will face off with MIT on Saturday at 12:00.
