Box Score Boston, Mass. - April 19, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball program used 14 runs in the third inning to defeat Emerson College, 23-10, in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.
Springfield improves to 14-15 on the season and 5-4 in NEWMAC play.
In the top of the first, Jack Simonetty (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) smashed a two-run homer to right center to give Springfield a 2-0 lead to start the scoring for the visitors. An RBI single from Noah Diamond (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the top of the second pushed the lead out to 3-0. Colucci homered in bottom of the second to close the game to a 3-2 lead. The Pride erupted in the third inning for as Simonetty homered for the second time in the lead off spot, while Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) hit a three-run shot later in the inning to put the score to 12-2. With two outs, Penkala tripled to score two runs to improves the Pride's lead to 17-2 to cap off the seven-hit, 14-run inning.
Emerson scored four unanswered runs in the bottom of the third to close the gap to 17-6. Loveland hit a homer in the bottom of the fourth and a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to make it 18-9, however, the Pride added three more in the sixth with a home run from Jack Cooney (Pittsfield, Mass.) to advance the lead to 21-9. An Emerson run in the bottom of the sixth made it 21-10, yet, the Pride added a pair of RBI hits in the top of the seventh to close out the game for the 23-10 victory.
