Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 20, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball program dropped its non-conference finale, 6-4, against Amherst College on Wednesday afternoon at Archie Allen Field.
The Pride are now 14-16 on the season.
After an RBI single in the first by Reydel to put Amherst ahead 1-0, Springfield used a four-run spurt in the bottom of the third to regain the lead. The Pride tied the game after an RBI single from Cadin Maynard (Watertown, Conn.) brought in a run, then, Noah Bleakley (Granby, Mass.) knocked in a run with a single to center to give Springfield a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice fly from Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) and a bases loaded walk for Luke DiMauro (Haddam, Conn.) allowed Springfield to take a 4-1 lead after the third.
Amherst added runs in the fifth to close the gap to 4-3, before, regaining the lead in the seventh with single to right from Qin, later in the inning, a sacrifice fly from Murphy would put Amherst ahead 6-4 midway through the seventh. In the bottom of the ninth, the Pride had a chance to tie or take the lead after the Mammoths walked two batters, however, the Pride would hit into a double play to close out the game and suffer the setback.
Springfield will face Clark on Friday at home beginning at 3:30.
