Baseball Rallies For Sweep Over Clark

Worcester, Mass. - April 23, 2022 - After posting a 4-0 shutout in the first game, Springfield College baseball program rallied for a 11-9 win over Clark to complete the doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.

Springfield is now 17-16 with a 9-4 record in conference play. 

The Pride will host Emerson on Tuesday at 3:30.

Springfield 4, Clark 0

Blake Roberge (Warwick, R.I.) earned the victory on the mound for Springfield as the junior threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and only gave up three hits.

The Pride broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning as Jack Cooney (Pittsfield, Mass.) hit a lead off home run to left to give the Pride its first lead of the game. Noah Diamond (Glastonbury, Conn.) followed that up with a single and later scored off a throwing error by the pitcher. Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) doubled to left to score another run for the Pride and put Springfield ahead 3-0. 

Noah Bleakely (Granby, Mass.) got in on the action in the top of the sixth with another lead off home run to left center and allowed Springfield to take a 4-0 lead. Roberge only allowed one hit over the final three innings to maintain the shutout victory for Springfield. 

Springfield 11, Clark 9

Both teams combined for 11 runs over the first three innings of the game as the Cougars earned a 7-4 lead early on. In the top of the fifth, Cooney earned an RBI hit as Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) came around to score and make it 7-5 as the Pride continued to chip away at the lead. The Cougars added two more in the bottom of the fifth keep the Pride at a distance with a 9-5 lead. Clark kept its four-run lead through seven innings as each team only got one hit over the span. In the top of the eighth, Springfield exploded for six runs highlighted by homer runs from Maynard and Bleakley as the Pride regained the lead at 11-9. Bleakley came in to close out the game in the ninth on the mound delivered two strikeouts to seal the win for Springfield.
