Box Score New London, Conn. - April 29, 2022 - The Springfield College baseball program used a 16-run inning to blow past Coast Guard, 21-9, in seven innings on Friday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Springfield is now 18-17 with a 10-5 record in conference. This is the fourth time this season that the Pride have scored over 20 runs in a game, while 16 runs is the most runs scored in an inning this season for Springfield.
The Pride produced 17 hits in the game as Jack Simonetty (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) produced three hits and six RBIs and Noah Bleakley (Granby, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Ian Benoit (Pittsfield, Mass.) earned the win after throwing six innings with three strikeouts.
The Pride starred down a 9-1 deficit after two innings as the Bears posted six runs in the bottom of the first inning, before adding three more in the second, highlighted by a lead off homer from Carroll. Springfield forced the hosts' into three straight outs in the bottom of the third to move the game to the fourth inning.
Springfield exploded with 16 runs in the fourth to storm back and take the lead as the Pride hit through the lineup almost three times. Simonetty hit a three-run shot that knotted up the contest at 9-9, however the Pride weren't finished as Bleakely added a two-run home run a couple at bats later. Joe Penkala (Warren, R.I) and Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) joined Simonetty with RBI hits late in the inning as Springfield produced 12 hits in the frame to go ahead 17-9.
The Pride furthered its lead in the sixth inning with four more runsas Simonetty singled to score, Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) before Bleakley ripped off a triple to the gap to bring in Simonetty. Two more runs came in for Springfield off miscues in the field and helped the Pride own a 21-9 lead.
Springfield will continue its weekend series with Coast Guard tomorrow at Archie Allen Field at 12:00.
