Box Score Boston, Mass. - April 9, 2022 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse program defeated Emerson College, 19-2, on the road on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition.
Springfield improves to 8-4 and perfect in the NEWMAC at 4-0.
Arielle Johnson (South Windsor, Conn.) tallied five points on four goals and one assist to pace the Pride. Holly Rivers (Danbury, Conn.) and Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) each contributed three scores. Lilly Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) and Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) both scored twice as the Pride put 31 shots on frame in the victory. As a team, the Pride picked up 28 ground balls and were a perfect 15-15 in clears.
Ainsley Basic and Julia Burns each scored for Emerson. Nina Khosla registered 12 saves in the setback.
Springfield scored its first goal of the game at 11:59 mark as Rivers dumped the ball into Anjelia Altebrando (Miller Place, N.Y.), who flicked in a shot to put the Pride ahead 1-0. Springfield would not score again until 5:04 as Rivers found the back of the net off a feed from Johnson. The Pride tacked on three unassisted scores before the end of the quarter to take a 5-0 lead into the second frame.
The Pride continued to find scoring opportunities in the second quarter as Rivers notched her second score of the half off the feed from Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) with just 40 seconds into the stanza. Vey and Johnson each buried two goals in the second quarter to give Springfield a 10-0 advantage at the half.
The Lions got on the board first in the second half as Ainsley Basic scored for the hosts to make it 10-1 with 14:36 to play. Springfield rattled off six unanswered goals to push its lead to 16-1 after the third. Emerson started off the final quarter with another goal from Julia Burns, before Springfeld closed out the contest with three scores en route to the 19-2 conference win.
The Pride return to Stagg Field on Wednesday to take on Clark on at 6:00.
