Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 14, 2022 - The Springfield College field hockey team was bested by visiting Eastern Connecticut State, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Stagg Field.
Springfield dropped to 2-2 with the loss, while the Warriors evened their record to 2-2.
For the game, ECSU held an 11-9 edge in shots and took eight of the game's 12 penalty corners. Savanna Harvey (Cumberland, Maine) posted four second-half saves on the afternoon in goal for the Pride.
The visitors pumped in the first goal of the game just under three minutes into the contest on the game's first penalty corner. Leah Kowalasky took the initial feed from Liz LaMarco and connected with Bryce Makula, who blasted in her bid from the left wing to make it a 1-0 contest in favor of the Warriors. ECSU added a goal late in the first half, as Emma Sanson collected a feed in front of the cage from LaMarco and jammed home a shot with only 32 seconds remaining in the frame.
Makula added her second of the game just 35 seconds in second half and the visitors would tack on two goals in a 2:40 span midway through the fourth quarter as they converted on penalty corner opportunities to put the game away.
The Pride will begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Satuday when it hosts WPI at 4:00 pm.
