Springfield, Mass. - January 29, 2023 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team competed in Blake Arena for the first time this season and was edged by visiting Army, 381.550-377.650, on Sunday afternoon.
In the all-around competition, Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) finished as the runner-up with a score of 74.550. In the opening event of the day, Felix Kriedemann (Strasslach, Germany) took first place for the Pride on the floor exercise as he was credited with a 13.800 and teammate Jakarie Williams (Stockbridge, Ga.) tied for second with a score of 13.450. Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) would be the Pride's third-best mark on the event after turning in a 12.700.
On the pommel horse, Colton O'Brien (Crystal Lake, Ill.) took second with a score of 12.300, while Ramalho and Kaplan tied for third with scores of 12.200. David Handron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the top spot in still rings, posting an event-best score of 13.450. Ramalho took third place with his score of 13.300 and Kaplan came in fourth after earning a 13.250 as the Pride turned in a team score of 64.100 on the event.
The Pride then put together a great effort on the vault with a team score of 70.050. Williams placed second posting a score of 14.400, Andrae Butler (Tauton, Mass.) earned third with a 14.250, while Ramalho and Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) put in strong performances scoring 14.200 and 14.100, respectively for fourth and fifth place.
In the fifth rotation, the Pride's Noah Dhaliwal (South Orange, N.J.) took second place on the parallel bars with a score of 13.200. Ramalho scored a 12.550 and Kriedemann posted a 12.350 as each finished inside the top eight.
Closing out the afternoon, Kriedemann was third on the high bar with a 12.950, Dhaliwal added a 12.800, and Kaplan scored a 12.300 to highlight the Pride's efforts which resulted in a 61.600 team score.
Springfield will host William & Mary this upcoming Sunday.
