Box Score Norton, Mass. – October 21, 2023 – The Springfield College men's soccer team fell to Wheaton College by a 1-0 final on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Keefe Field.
Wheaton improved to 5-4-6 overall and to 3-1-2 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dipped to 4-6-5 overall and to 1-3-3 in the league standings with one conference game remaining for both squads.
Wheaton out shot Springfield by a 19-3 margin and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Lyons scored the game's only goal in the 64th minute as Robert Lloyd tallied his third marker of the season off a pair of one touch passes from Joey Everett and Avery Dinham.
Two of Springfield's three shots were blocked down by the Wheaton defense, while Parker Thornton's (Malden, Mass.) header off a corner by Chris Cruz (Greenwich, Conn.) sailed wide.
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made five saves for Springfield in the effort as his record moved to 4-6-5 this year.
Springfield will return to action next Saturday, October 28 with a home NEWMAC contest against Salve Regina with a playoff berth on the line.
