Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – October 3, 2023 – The Springfield College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games with tonight's 2-0 non-conference victory at Skidmore College. With the win, the Pride improved to 4-3-3, while the Thoroughbreds moved to 1-7-2.
Springfield sophomore keeper Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) tied his season and career-high with five saves in tonight's shutout win. As a team, Springfield has not surrendered a goal in its past four games, a stretch of nearly 400 minutes, and has only conceded a single goal in its past seven games dating back to September 12, a stretch of 630 minutes.
Pote remained tied atop the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and ranks second in all of Division III men's soccer with seven shutouts on the season. Both Pote and Babson's Walker White sit only behind Adam Carter of Messiah University, who has eight clean sheets this year.
As a team, Springfield ranks tied for third in Division III men's soccer with seven shutouts in 2023 as only Whitewater, Carleton, Texas Lutheran, Wartburg and Messiah have more.
Offensively tonight, senior Chris Cruz (Greenwich, Conn.) put Springfield on the board just 20 minutes into the contest against Skidmore with an unassisted strike which marked his second goal of the season and his second game winner of the year. Prior to the halftime break, senior Jack Habersaat (Boston, Mass.) doubled Springfield's edge to 2-0 with an unassisted strike of his own. Habersaat's goal tonight was the first of his collegiate career.
Springfield held a slim 19-17 edge in shots, while Skidmore had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pride will continue its four match road swing with a NEWMAC contest at MIT on Saturday, October 7 at 7:00 pm at Steinbrenner Stadium.
