Box Score New London, Conn. - February 18, 2023 - Behind an impressive offensive outing, the Springfield College men's basketball team wrapped up the 2022-23 season with a 92-65 victory at Coast Guard in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday.
The Pride concluded the year with a 7-18 record, including 4-10 in conference play. For the Pride, it marked its highest offensive output of the season as it totaled 92 points in the conference triumph. Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) was one of five players in double figures with a team-best 18 points, while Panayiotis Kapanides (Bedford, Mass.) added 16 points. Daryl Costa (Providence, R.I.) netted 14 points, Curtiss Blische (Barkhamstad, Conn.) totaled 10 points and eight boards, and Zander Robinson (East Hartford, Conn.) contributed 11 points in 17 minutes of action off the bench. John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) snagged a career-best 13 rebounds as Springfield owned a 50-18 scoring advantage in the paint on the day.
Springfield scored the first nine points of the game as it seized control of things early following a Blische putback at the 17:18 mark. The Bears would knot the first half up at 20-20 on a three-point play with just over seven minutes left on the clock, but Evely would answer with a three-point play of his own to put the Pride ahead for good as it would go into the break with a 40-31 edge.
The visiting Pride would score the first eight points of the second half, as Blische converted inside at 18:09 to help the lead balloon to 49-34. Springfield would coast from there as they accounted for 52 points in the second half, as it shot 21-of-36 (58%. In his final action with the Pride, Costa would score 12 points in the second half.
