Box Score Hoboken, N.J. - March 10, 2023 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team traveled out of region on Friday and was upended by Stevens, 14-11, at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Stevens is now 5-0 on the season and Springfield fell to 1-3.
Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) totaled three assists and two goals and Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) chipped in a hat trick and an assist to pace a Pride offense that held a 31-29 edge in shots. Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.) made six saves in the setback as Stevens finished the contest with a 19-10 advantage in draw controls.
The hosts never trailed in the game as they opened up a 3-1 lead with just over six minutes left in the first, only to have Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) finish off a Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) feed inside the final minute of the quarter to make it 3-2 contest.
Springfield would tie the game up at 4-4 at the 10:48 mark of the second following back-to-back goals by O'Connor, but the Ducks would put together a 4-1 burst to close out the half and head into the break with an 8-5 edge.
Each team would score twice in the third, but Andresen was able to find the back of the cage on a man-down situation to trim Stevens advantage to 11-9 with just over five minutes left in regulation. However, Stevens would connect for two goals in a 1:36 span to push the lead back to 13-9 as it held on for the non-conference win.
Springfield will open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play next Saturday in a rematch of last year's conference title game against Babson at 1 pm.
