Springfield 2, Muhlenberg 1
Blake Roberge (Warwick, R.I.) got the start on the mound and threw 4.1 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just three hits. Ian Benoit (Pittsfield, Mass.) was credited with the save as he came in to get the final two outs of the game, relieving Jack DeGirolamo (Newington, Conn.), who tossed two innings for the Pride. Andrew McCarty (Meriden, Conn.) would account for three of the Pride's eight hits in the contest and Noah Diamond (Glastonbury, Conn.) added a pair of hits as each drove in a run.
Springfield would produce both of their runs in the bottom of the second as they took advantage of an error following a Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) leadoff single. With two runners on, McCarty belted a run-scoring single through the right side and Diamond followed in similar fashion as the Pride opened up a 2-0 lead.
The Pride kept the Mules off the scoreboard in the fourth with a play at the plate as Joe Traversa's (Pittsfield, Mass.) throw home allowed Sorgi to make the tag and end the inning and keep it a 2-0 contest.
Muhlenberg would make a late charge in the seventh, getting a run on a bases loaded walk before Benoit entered the game. The senior then produced a fly out and delivered a game-sealing strikeout for the 2-1 victory.
Muhlenberg 4, Springfield 2
Each team had four hits in the second game of the afternoon, with Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) registering a pair of singles for the Pride. Pitching in his home state of Florida, Colby Welch (Brandon, Fla.) gave up four runs off four hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Muhlenberg led off the game with a single and later scored on a groundout and added two more runs in the second inning thanks to a two-out single to center. Springfield would respond in the third inning, totaling two runs off three hits. With two outs on the board, Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Maynard both singled and Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) drew a walk to load the bases. Kevin Gower (Seekonk, Mass.) then ripped a two-run single to right to drive in a pair to make it a one-run game.
Springfield would surrender an insurance run to the Mules in the fifth as a hit batter with the bases loaded forced in a run. The Pride was unable to mount a late rally as it dropped the 4-2 decision.
