Box Score Babson Park, Mass. - March 18, 2023 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team fell to Babson, 16-6, in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.
The Pride drop to 1-4 on the season. Babson improves to 2-3, winning their second straight game.
Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) lead the way offensively for the Pride scoring three and assisting one giving her four points on the day, while Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) pitched in two helpers. Gianna Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) each picked up four ground balls, and Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.) made 11 saves between the pipes.
Babson raced out to a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Springfield would answer, scoring two straight goals en route to a 4-1 run. O'Connor would score two straight goals, and Newton would score a late goal just before the first-period buzzer. Springfield opened up the second quarter of play with an unassisted strike from O'Connor. Babson would then take control of the game scoring six straight goals. The Pride would not get on the board again until Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) stuck home a free-position shot making the score 11-5 with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter.
Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) would score the lone goal of the fourth for the Pride off of a great feed from Johnson with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. Babson would score the final goal of the game to make the score 16-6.
Springfield will next host Endicott on Wednesday evening at 6 pm.
