Women's Lacrosse Pushes Past Endicott, 17-7

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - March 22, 2023 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team outscored visiting Endicott by a 10-2 margin in the second half as it ran away with a 17-7 non-conference victory on Wednesday evening.

Both teams records are now 2-4 are tonight's result.  Springfield held a 35-25 advantage in shots for the game and committed just 12 turnovers on the day.  Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.) was strong between the pipes as she made 15 saves and limited the Gulls to 2-of-6 on free-position shots. Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) was sensational on the offense end with eight points, including seven goals, while Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) tured in a three-goal performance of her own, as did Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.).  Springfield totaled 19 draw controls in the game, including 11 by Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.).

It was a back-and-forth affair in the opening 15 minutes of play as the teams combined for seven goals, with all three of the Pride's markers coming from O'Connor.  After O'Connor pumped in a man-up advantage at 2:28 off a feed from Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.), the Gulls would take a 4-3 edge on an unassisted marker from Kate Wagner with 40 ticks on the clock.

In the second, Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) got free from behind the cage for a goal at 9:25, only to have the visitors answer just over a minute later on a strike from Clare Wendell. The Pride would pull away with the final three goals of the stanza, with Crispens elevating to snag a great feed from Karen Joy (South Windsor, Conn.) and redirect in a goal at the 3:47 mark to make it 7-5 heading into the break.

After Endicott opened up the second-half scoring just under 90 seconds into the quarter  on an unassisted goal by Carly Pierce, Springfield poured on a 10-1 scoring run to close out the game as it held the Gulls without a goal for the final 17-plus minutes of the contest.  Newton would cash in on three goals in the fourth quarter, while Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) added two goals of her own in the second half to help the Pride cruise to the 17-7 victory.

Springfield will travel to Smith for a conference game on Saturday at 12 pm.
