Box Score Northampton, Mass. - March 25, 2023 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team scored the first 12 goals of the game as it raced by Smith, 14-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday.
Springfield improved to 3-4, 1-1 with the win, while Smith dropped to 4-5, 1-1.
Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) netted five goals in the victory as Springfield owned a 29-13 advantage in shots for the game. Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.) added two goals and an assist, while Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) added two goals and four draw controls. Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.) and Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) split time in goal, limiting the hosts to just three goals as they combined for eight saves.
Springfield opened up a 9-0 first half lead as O'Connor scored four times in the second quarter and would get an unassisted strike from Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) with 5:34 remaining in the third to push its lead to 12-0. Smith would eventually score for the first time on the day with 2:34 on the clock in the third but Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) would answer back for the visitors to make it a 13-1 contest heading into the fourth.
A goal from Emily Zambarano (South Hero, Vt.) with three minutes remaining in regulation closed out the scoring for the game as Springfield would coast to the 14-3 win.
Springfield will play three home games next week, beginning on Wednesday with a 6 pm tilt versus Westfield State.
