Box Score Springfield, Mass. - March 28, 2023 - The Springfield College baseball team was clipped by visiting Brandeis, 5-4, in a non-conference clash on Tuesday at Archie Allen Field.
With the win, Brandeis elevated its record to 4-9, while Springfield dipped to 6-8-1.
Brandeis jumped out to a fast start, producing a triple, two doubles, and a single in the opening inning en route to three runs. Springfield would chip into the lead with a run of their own in the bottom half, with Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) connecting on a double to left center to plate Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) who singled through the left side with two outs.
The Judges added another run in the third following a lead off single that would come around to score on a one-out double to left, before pushing their lead to 5-1 on a two-out infield single in the sixth.
Springfield took advantage of reaching on an error to lead off the bottom of the sixth and Maynard followed with another base knock to put runners on the corners, as Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) would later score on a double play.
In the eighth, Springfield pulled within 5-4 as both Sorgi and Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) were hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Andrew McCarty (Meriden, Conn.) roped a single to right field to plate both runners to make it a one-run contest. The visitors were able to get out of the inning and would hold on for the one-run conference victory.
Springfield will travel to New Hampshire on Wednesday to take on Keene State at 3 pm.
