Box Score Worcester, Mass. – April 12, 2023 –Springfield College women's lacrosse picked up its fourth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season this evening as the Pride downed Clark University by an 18-2 final on the road.
Springfield improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the NEWMAC, while Clark dropped to 3-8 and 0-5 in the league.
The Pride was led by Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) and Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine), who both registered hat tricks in the victory. Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.), Bella Cardaropoli (Palmer, Mass.) and Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) all scored twice for Springfield. Isabella Mazzi (Niantic, Conn.) guided the Pride with a pair of assists and a trio of ground balls.
Springfield scored the first 15 goals of the game, eight of which came in the opening quarter. The Pride tallied three goals in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth to account for the 18-2 final. Taylor completed her first collegiate hat trick tonight before the first quarter horn sounded.
The Pride held statistical advantages in shots (27-14), draw controls (14-8), ground balls (19-14) and caused turnovers (9-2) and also went 2-for-2 on free position attempts. Additionally, Springfield went 10-for-12 on clearing attempts in tonight's win.
In net, Springfield starter Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.), who improved to 6-2 this season, made four saves in the first half, while Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) stopped five shots in the second half for the Pride.
Springfield will travel to MIT on Saturday, April 15 for a NEWMAC contest at 1:00 pm.
