Crispens Powers Women's Lacrosse Past Wellesley, 17-4

Wellesley, Mass. – April 19, 2023 – Powered by a career-high four goals from Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.), the Springfield College women's lacrosse team picked up a 17-4 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory at Wellesley College tonight.

The Pride improved to 9-6 overall and to 5-2 in the NEWMAC, while Wellesley dropped to 4-10 on the year and to 2-5 in league play.

In addition to Crispens' second collegiate hat trick tonight, both Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) both tallied a trio of goals for Springfield. Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) and Lauren Landino (South Windsor, Conn.) posted multi-point games with three points (two goals and one assist) and four points (two goals and two assists), respectfully. Defensively, Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) guided the Pride with four ground balls and three caused turnovers in addition to her goal and assist.

Crispens and Landino both scored twice in the opening quarter after Andresen tallied the first goal of the game just 51-seconds into the action as Springfield led 5-0 through 15 minutes of play. Crispens and Andresen completed their hat tricks in the second quarter en route to an 11-1 halftime advantage.

In the third, Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.) and Hibbert accounted for the scoring for the Pride, before Johnson, Taylor and Isabella Mazzi (Niantic, Conn.) capped the game for Springfield in the fourth.

Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.) made four saves and earned the win in net for the Pride as she moved to 7-3 on the year.

Statistically, held a 20-4 advantage in draw controls and a 33-15 margin in shots. Wellesley held a slight 26-25 edge in ground balls, while both teams were able to clear the ball 11 times on the night. Springfield went a perfect 11-for-11 on clearing attempts, while the Blue were 11-for-24 in transition.

Springfield will host Wheaton College on Saturday, April 22 at 12:00 pm on Stagg Field in its next contest.
