Game One:
After scoring one run in the top of the second, Clark put together four in the third for a 5-0 advantage. The Cougars used an RBI triple, an RBI single and a two-run double to account for their four runs in the frame. In the bottom of the third, Springfield got a pair back following a walk by Cole Crynock (Broad Brook, Conn.) as Joe Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.) triple to left center and Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) roped an infield single to first.
Clark loaded the bases and put together runs on a walk and a ground out in the top of the fifth and then Tyler Jones ripped an RBI single to left in the six to extend the Cougars advantage to 8-2. Traversa answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame and Springfield added one more in the ninth, but Clark took the opener 8-4.
Andres Hulfachor pitched five innings out of the pen for Clark and moved to 1-1 on the year as he scattered six hits, allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out four.
Game Two:
Clark took advantage of six Springfield errors and scored at least one in eight of nine innings played today. Both teams went run for run in the first two innings as Springfield used a two run single by Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) in the first and a single up the middle by Traversa in the second to even the game at 3-3.
An RBI double in the top of the third by Brayden Hollinrake gave Clark a 4-3 edge, a lead it would not relinquish as the Cougars scored seven unanswered runs en route to the 11-3 win.
Maxwell Gitlin moved to 5-1 on the year for Clark as he pitched seven innings, allowed seven runs and three earned runs in the nightcap.
Springfield will travel to the New England Baseball Complex for a NEWMAC contest against Emerson College on Tuesday, April 25 at 3:30 pm.
