Franklin, Mass. – April 27, 2023 – The Springfield College baseball team led from wire-to-wire this afternoon in a 14-11 non-conference final at Dean College. The Pride are now 12-18-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs fell to 8-28 this season.

Max Giacco (Meriden, Conn.) went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate today for Springfield, while Joe Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.) went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Additionally, Andrew Sweet had a 3-for-5 day with an RBI and three runs, Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI and a walk and Luke DiMauro (Haddam, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a trio of RBI in the victory.

Springfield took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double from Traversa, an RBI single by Cadin Maynard (Waterford, Conn.) and a sacrifice fly by DiMauro. Both Springfield and Dean tallied a pair of runs in the third as the score stood at 5-4 in favor of the Pride a third of the way through the contest.

Sweet led off the five run fourth with his first career home run as the ball was lifted over the fence in left. With runners on first and third, Barrett plated both Traversa and Mark Nofri (Naugatuck, Conn.) on a single to right before and RBI double from Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) and an RBI single by DiMauro expanded Springfield's lead to 10-4.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Sweet doubled to left and came around to score Springfield's 12th run of the day on an error before a two-run single by Cole Crynock (Broad Brook, Conn.) made the score 14-8. Dean scored one run in each of the final three innings to account for the 14-11 final.

In a bullpen game for Springfield, Michael White (Granby, Mass.) earned his first win of the season as he went three innings, allowed four hits and surrendered four runs.

Springfield will host Coast Guard in the opening game of a three-game NEWMAC set tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 pm.
