Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 6, 2023 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team had its five-game winning streak snapped as it was defeated by Western New England, 16-9, in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon.
WNE improved to 7-4 with the win, while the Pride slipped to 6-5.
Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) netted three goals for the Pride and Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.) added two goals and an assist. Gianna Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) snagged six draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers on the defensive end.
After Lauren Landino (South Windsor, Conn.) pumped in the game's first goal for Springfield inside the opening minute of play, the Golden Bears closed out the quarter with the next five goals to take a lead it would not relinquish. An unassisted strike from Andresen with 6:58 remaining in the first half trimmed the hosts lead to 6-3, only to have WNE score the final three markers of the quarter to take a 9-3 cushion into the half.
The Golden Bears would remain in control throughout the second half until a late spurt from the Pride, with three goals in a four-plus minute span, pulled Springfield within five goals at 13-8 with 7:52 left in regulation. However, the Golden Bears closed out the game on a 3-1 burst to conclude the scoring and take the non-conference win.
Springfield will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday versus Emerson at 12 pm.
