Box Score Springfield, Mass. – September 1, 2023 – The Springfield College men's soccer team and Albertus Magnus College played to a 90-minute scoreless draw in the season opener for both squads on Friday evening on Brock-Affleck Field.
Today's match was even statistically as Springfield held a slim 13-9 edge in shots, while both teams took seven corner kicks. Andres Diosa made five saves for the visiting Falcons and Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) stopped the ball four times for the homestanding Pride over the course of 90 minutes.
Springfield had a number of good chances to find the back of the net tonight including in the opening minute of the contest when Matthew Mela (Natick, Mass.) sailed the ball just over the crossbar. Meanwhile, late in the match, Chris Cruz had two open looks for headers on net – one off a corner and one off a cross from the right side.
Early in the second half, Albertus had a pair of looks to break the scoreless draw. In the 50th minute, Kris Bocchio forced Pote to make a diving save on a shot from inside the six-yard box before Magnus Donaldo hit the crossbar on his attempt in the 58th minute. After the ball fell from the crossbar, it was Tristan Moran (Weehawken, N.J.), who cleared it off the line to keep match knotted at 0-0.
Springfield will be back in action on Wednesday, September 6 with a home match against Vassar College beginning at 7:00 pm on Brock-Affleck Field.
