Box Score Springfield, Mass. – September 30, 2023 – For the third time this season and for the second time in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play, the Springfield College men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw. Today, Springfield drew even with Coast Guard to move to 3-3-3 overall and to 1-0-2 in the league.
In the tightly contested matchup, both Springfield and Coast Guard were able to get off eight shots apiece, while the visiting Bears held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
Springfield keeper Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made a season-high and a career-high five saves this afternoon for the Pride and earned his sixth shutout of the campaign, which is tied for first in the NEWMAC with Walker White of Babson College.
In the first half, Springfield's Chris Cruz (Greenwich, Conn.) and Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) had their shot attempts sail just over the crossbar and then forced Coast Guard keeper Wolfgang Pfleghar make three saves in the second. With less than three minutes to play in the game, Springfield first-year Aidan Hallinan (New Windsor, N.Y.) took possession of the ball on the far side of the field and ripped a shot from the top of the box, but his attempt fired off the post and out of play.
Springfield will travel to Skidmore College for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, October 3 at 7:00 pm.
