Wellesley, Mass. – November 2, 2024 – The Springfield College women's cross country team produced a sixth place finish at this afternoon's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Nehoiden Golf Course.
Springfield's sixth place finish is its highest since 2011 when the team took fifth overall. MIT won the meet with 16 points and was followed by Coast Guard (65), Smith (95), Mount Holyoke (168) and Wellesley (176). Springfield tallied 203 points to hold off Babson (207) for sixth.
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) paced Springfield with a time of 23:05.0 as she crossed the finish line 21st overall.
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) followed Olmedo in 34th with a time of 23:43.7, while
Leah Castle (Ashford, Conn.) took 47th in 24:32.1.
Kayleigh Jensen (Salem, Conn.) and
Audrey Jankovich (Berlin, Conn.) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Pride as Jensen crossed the finish line in 75th in 25:32.5, while Jankovich took 77th in 25:37.0.
Springfield had five other student-athletes compete at this year's NEWMAC Championships including
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.), who finished 81st (25:55.4),
Sara St. Germain (Somers, Conn.), who finished 87th in 26:20.5,
Meghan Conway (Nashua, N.H.), who finished 96th in 26:51.3,
Brooke Ferrare (Waterbury, Conn.), who finished 113th in 29:16.4 and
Taylor Desmarais (Berlin, Conn.), who finished 116th in 29:49.6.
Springfield will next travel to New London, Connecticut for the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on November 16.
