Springfield, Mass. - February 17, 2024 - Springfield College women's track and field first-year
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) once again broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles as the Pride competed at the Triangle Classic hosted inside the Springfield Field House.
DeFosse clocked a time of 9.13 in the prelim heat before breaking her school record that she previously set at the Massasoit Classic on January 20 with a mark of 9.02 to win the event today. She was followed in the hurdles by senior
Sam Stallard (Waldwick, N.J.) in fifth with a time of 9.71. DeFosse's time currently ranks 35th in Division III this season.
Springfield had quite the day in the sprint events on top of DeFosse's record as senior
Gwen Andersen (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and sophomore
Kaitlyn Doherty (Wilmington, Mass.) took second and third in the 60-meter dash with times of 7.99 and 8.01, respectively. Doherty and DeFosse also finished fourth (26.88) and fifth (27.44), respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Senior
Maggie Donohue (East Hampton, Conn.) finished as runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.47 and was followed in fourth by junior
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) in 1:03.59.
Sophomore
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) registered a second place finish in the 5,000-meter run in 19:47.55, while junior
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) took third in the 1,000-meter run in 3:12.17, sophomore
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.) finished fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:24.31 and senior
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.) took fifth in the 600-meter dash in 1:46.51.
Junior
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) and senior
Sophie Curcio (New Canaan, Conn.) crossed the line fourth and fifth, respectively, in the mile with times of 5:24.40 and 5:26.96, while sophomore
Hannah McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run in 11:41.39.
The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore
Mackenzie DiDonato (Thomaston, Conn.), Donahue, junior
Maeve D'Arcy (West Hartford, Conn.) and Brillo won the event with a time of 4:21.46 to round out the highlights on the track for the Pride.
In the field events, junior
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) posted a win in the triple jump with a best leap of 11.40-meters (37 feet, 4.75 inches). Classmate
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) took fifth in the weight throw with a best toss of 14.12-meters (46 feet, 4 inches) and eighth in the shot put with a best mark of 11.07-meters (36 feet, 3.75 inches), while first-year
Summer Sobieski (South Deerfield, Mass.) finished seventh in the high jump with a best clearance of 1.41-meters (4 feet, 7.5 inches). Junior
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) rounded out the highlights for the Pride with an eighth place finish in the pole vault with a best jump of 3.10-meters (10 feet, 2 inches).
Springfield will compete in the 2024 New England Division III Championships on Sunday, February 25 at 9:00 am at the Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
