Cortland, N.Y. – January 12, 2025 – The Springfield College women's gymnastics team opened the 2025 campaign at Cortland against Utica, Rhode Island College, Ursinus and the host Red Dragons and finished fifth with a team score of 180.225.
Ursinus won the meet with 186.825 points and was followed by Utica (186.650), Cortland (186.400), Rhode Island College (183.525) and Springfield (180.225).
Springfield produced its best score of the day on the floor with a mark of 46.450 and its best placement of fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 42.275 ahead of Rhode Island College. The Pride also tallied team marks of 46.3000 on the vault and a score of 45.200 on the beam.
Senior
Ayako Maeda (Tokyo, Japan) had the best finish for Springfield on the day as she took fifth overall in the uneven bars with a score of 9.375, while graduate student
Sarah Brownstein (Salt Lake City, Utah), in her debut with the Pride, finished ninth overall on the balance beam with a score of 9.375. Behind Brownstein on the beam was sophomore
Ava Kelley (Mashpee, Mass.), who took 17th with a score of 9.100.
Springfield also placed two in the top-18 on both the floor and vault. Junior
Sage Kaplan (Auburn, Mass.)was Springfield's top finisher on the vault with a score of 9.450 and recorded a score of 9.500 on the floor, while junior
Stacy Taylor (Biddeford, Maine) was Springfield's top finisher on the floor with a score of 9.550.
First-year
Reagan Charlton (Bentonville, Ark.) made her collegiate debut this afternoon and competed in three events – her best coming as Springfield's runner-up on the vault and 18th overall with a score of 9.400.
Springfield will travel to Southern Connecticut State University for a quad meet alongside the University of Bridgeport and Brown University on Saturday, January 18 at 1:00 pm.
