Northampton, Mass. – October 10, 2025 – The Springfield College women's tennis team opened action at the 2025 New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on the campus of Smith College this afternoon.
Springfield was represented in the B Draw, C Draw and D Draw. The format of each match is two singles and one doubles with the winner of two of the three matchups advancing.
In the B Draw,
Peyton Gaudreau (Branford, Conn.) and
Erica Jud (Glen Head, N.Y.) advanced into the semifinals following a 2-1 win over Olivia Chin and Emily Wang of Smith. Gaudreau defeated Chin 7-5, 6-1, but Wang evened the match at one as she topped Jud 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. In the doubles contest, the Springfield duo edged the Smith duo by a score of 7-6 (2).
Gaudreau and Jud faced the top-seed in the B Draw in Michaela Landry and Tina Barrow of Colby in the semifinal round, but ultimately fell by a 3-0 score. In the third place match, the Springfield duo were clipped by Amherst's Rachel Roth and Katja Jules Viberg, 2-1. Amherst won in doubles 7-6 and Roth defeated Gaudreau 6-0, 6-7, 10-7.
In the C Draw,
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and
Natalia Peyon (Discovery Bay, Hong Kong) fell to Tabitha Bastress and. Isa Benitez-Barron of Smith, 2-1, as well as Laila Haraj-Sai and Asia Leigh Hollis of Wheaton, 2-1. Elliott and Peyon were victorious in doubles against the Smith duo, 6-2, while Elliott defeated Hiraj-Sai of Wheaton, 8-7 (7), to claim the lone point in that matchup. Elliott and Peyon fell to the duo from St. Joseph's Conn. to wrap up the weekend.
In the D Draw,
Ava Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) and
Grace Tyler (Longmeadow, Mass.)blanked Haylee Doiron and Lydia Branson of Wheaton, 3-0. Shea and Tyler teamed up for a 6-2 doubles win with Shea shutting down Dorian 6-2, 6-0 and Tyler running past Runyon 6-0, 6-4 in singles play to advance to the semifinal round. Tyler and Shea were edged by Alisa Pimenova and Jayden Beverly of Emerson College, 2-1, in the semifinal round before claiming a third place victory with a 3-0 sweep of Gianna Di-Reumante and Sidra Sundberg of Emerson. Tyler and Shea won 6-1 in doubles with Tyler beating Sundberg 6-1, 6-0 and Shea beating Di-Reumante, 7-5, 6-1 in singles.
Springfield will return to action in February to kick off its traditional spring season.
