Box Score Worcester, Mass. – February 22, 2025 – The Springfield College men's basketball team fell to Clark University, 78-64, in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
Springfield finishes its regular season at 10-15 overall and 7-9 in NEWMAC play and will travel to Emerson for the conference tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm as the Pride will serve as the fifth seeded in the playoff bracket. Clark, meanwhile, secured the second seed and a first round bye after completing the regular season at 16-9, 12-4.
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) registered a career-best 32 points on 15-for-17 shooting from the floor to go along with three steals, three rebounds, two assists and a block, while
John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) and
Cedric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) both added seven points to Springfield's line today. Paulino led the Pride with seven boards in the setback. Springfield shot 42.9-percent from the floor (27-for-63) and scored 50 of its 64 points in the paint.
Clark had three student-athletes register double digit point totals as Kekoa McArdle posted a game-high 25 points on 11-for-15 shooting in addition to 11 rebounds to complete the double double. Isaiah Taylor and Bruce Saintilus registered 18 and 14 points, respectively, for the hosts. Clark shot 53.7-percent from the floor (29-for-54) and buried eight shots from behind the arc. The Cougars also registered 40 points in the paint, 35 points off the bench and 18 points off Springfield turnovers.
Springfield jumped out to a 6-0 edge over the opening minutes of the game following buckets by
Xoren Livingston (Wayland, Mass.),
Curtiss Blische (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and Rodriguez and ultimately held the lead until Taylor scored in transition for a 12-11 edge for the hosts with 12:22 left in the first half. In a back and forth 20 minutes of play, Clark went ahead 18-13, but a 10-5 spurt for Springfield capped on back-to-back layups from Flynn tied the score again at 23 still with seven minutes remaining in the first before Rodriguez gave the Pride a 25-23 edge. Clark answered with a 12-2 run before for a 35-27 lead before taking a 35-29 lead into the break.
Springfield outscored Clark 8-5 over the first three and a half minutes of the second to cut its deficit to just three at 40-37, but a 12-5 spurt for Clark pushed the hosts ahead by double digits for the first time in the game after Taylor knocked down a trey for the 52-42 advantage. The Pride was able to pull within two points once again at 59-57, but never regained the lead as a trio of deep three pointers by Clark made it a nine point game before Saintilus buried a trey of his own to make it a 14 point game with two minutes remaining on the clock as the Cougars went on to win it 78-64.
