Bridgeport, Conn. – February 9, 2025 – The Springfield College women's gymnastics team earned a third place finish at Bridgeport University's quad meet on Sunday afternoon with a team score of 185.275 points.
The hosts won the meet with a score of 192.175, Rhode Island College took second with a 189.950, Springfield took third with a 185.275 and Wilberforce came in fourth with a 177.300.
Springfield began the day on the beam and was paced by a fourth place effort from
Ava Kelley (Mashpee, Mass.) who produced a score of 9.550.
Brenna Johnson (Plainfield, Conn.) tallied Springfield's second-highest score on the beam with a 9.325.
Springfield turned in the second-highest score among the four teams on the floor exercise with a 48.075 only behind Bridgeport (48.175) as the Pride placed four student-athletes in the top-10.
Delaney LaViolette (Holden, Mass.) took fifth in the event with a 9.675 and was closely followed by
Stacy Taylor (Biddeford, Maine) with a 9.650.
Elsie Gardiner (Tucson, Ariz.) and
Julia Reer (Cedar Grove, N.J.) also finished inside the top-10 as they tied for ninth with a 9.625 on the floor.
Taylor paced Springfield with a ninth place finish on the vault with a mark of 9.500, while
Ayako Maeda (Tokyo, Japan) had the highest score for the Pride on the uneven bars with a mark of 9.500, also for ninth place.
In the All Around competition,
Sage Kaplan (Auburn, Mass.) recorded a sixth place finish as she turned in a 36.375. Kaplan recorded a 9.500 on the floor, a 9.200 on the beam, a 9.000 on the bars and an 8.675 on the vault.
Springfield will travel to Rhode Island College for a tri-meet between the host Anchorwomen and Cortland on Saturday, February 15 at 12:00 pm.
